Marty Lindsey is an actor well-known for Western films, such as Outlaws and Angels, and more recently, Rust.
"Rust is a throwback Western; it's pretty down and dirty, It's very well-written, Joel Souza and Alec Baldwin are the writers of it. I don't want to give away the whole storyline, but it's a story between a grandfather and a grandson who is on the run from the law of doing something very bad. His grandfather catches up to him -- the grandfather that he never knew. The grandfather was a bit of an outlaw and stayed away from the family -- there's some backstory there -- but he's there to protect his grandson. Alec plays the grandfather.
"My scenes are with Jensen [Ackles] and Swen [Temmel] ... I play one of the only straight-up cowboys. There was a lot of lawman there's Alec's character and the boy; there's butchers and barkeeps. I'm more of a cowboy cowhand that drinks too much."
When asked about fun or interesting stories from set, Marty tells the tale of a lost pair of boots ...
"I have an old pair of boots that I've worn now, probably at least four or five times in projects like this. And they're period and perfect -- they fit my feet. Every time I go to the costume designer, they're like, yep, good, perfect. They're old and beat up. I went to the fitting [for Rust] and I showed her the boots, which I had already sent her pictures of. They're like, great, great, perfect, perfect.
"I'm like, I'm going to take my boots. And she said, no, I, I want to hold onto them because what if you forget them -- can we just keep them here? I said, yeah, yes, no problem. I show up the first day and I go in my trailer -- usually they have your clothes of hung up with your stuff, laid out for you ... and there's another pair of boots. Not my boots. I just went to the costume trailer and I was like, 'Hey, these are not my boots ... brought my own boots.' They said, okay. Yeah. Okay, well, we'll find them.
"I was like, plus those boots don't fit me. I even tried on the ones that are in my trailer. I'm in the hair and makeup trailer and I'm talking to Swen and we're talking about all kinds of different things. The story of my boots came up and he's like where where do you think they are? I looked down and was like, what size are your, your feet? He's like 10-1/2, 11. I'm looking at his boots. And I'm like, I'm pretty sure you have my boots on.
"So I pull up some photos that I took sent to the costume designer. And he's like, yeah, those are your boots ..."
Rust has gotten a lot of attention lately from the Supernatural fandom due to Jensen Ackles' involvement in the film.
"[Jensen is a] great guy. Very down to earth, very cool. We improvised some stuff during one big bar scene. He plays the marshal ... . I have to be honest with you. I didn't watch Supernatural. I found out more about him after the fact ... I've just realized like, whoa, this guy is a very, very, very well-known guy. He just kind of reminded me of a couple of buddies of mine back home.
Marty recently tweeted a photo that included Jensen, which got an overwhelming response ... a response that surprised Marty completely.
"It kind of freaked me out .. I'm like, whoa, what what's going on here? I talked to a friend in Colorado and she said, oh, no, that show -- there's like a fandom. It's a huge show. It was on for like 14 seasons or something like that -- 15 seasons. So any show, that lasts 15 seasons ... if a show lasts five, that's a long run. I was surprised."
